Teaming is new to VHMS this year. Teaming provides a safety net for students by clustering our faculty into academic teams with Social Studies, Language Arts, and Science at the core. These team teachers share the same group of students and a common preparation period. During this prep period core teachers meet and discuss team goals, the needs of individual students, and ways to support each other in their curricular endeavors. They also discuss cross-curricular projects, which allow our students to see that subjects do not exist in isolation. They learn that each class they take is in many ways interconnected with other classes, which leads to deeper and richer learning and understanding.
While only three teachers constitute the core team, all teachers at Vista Heights are involved in teaming. Each teacher has had the opportunity to meet with core teams to offer insights and to provide resources and suggestions regarding how they can support the teaming effort.
