On March 19th, our Concert Band and Symphonic Band proudly represented Vista Heights at the State Jr. High Festival, held at the University of Utah.
This prestigious event brings together top-performing ensembles from across the state and is adjudicated by some of the most respected band directors in the country. Performing in such a high-level setting is both an honor and a meaningful opportunity for growth, and our students rose to the occasion in every way.
Both ensembles delivered outstanding performances that reflected months of dedicated practice, teamwork, and commitment to musical excellence.
Highlights from the festival include:
Symphonic Band: Earned Straight Superior Ratings, an achievement accomplished by only a select number of groups statewide
Symphonic Band: Received the Sweepstakes Award, which includes a superior rating in the challenging sight-reading portion of the festival
Concert Band: Awarded Superior Ratings for their performance
In addition to these remarkable accomplishments, the Symphonic Band received especially high praise from adjudicators. One comment stood out as particularly meaningful:
“This is the best he has heard them at the state festival.” – Former Director of Bands, Mr. Paul Lemen
Beyond the awards, what made this experience truly special was the way our students represented Vista Heights. They demonstrated exceptional professionalism, respect, and pride—both on and off the stage—serving as outstanding ambassadors for our school and community.
We are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication. If you see one of these students, please take a moment to congratulate them on this well-earned success.
Thank you for your continued support of our music program!
